About Us

unravel at ucla

Unravel seeks to educate students about what happens behind the seams of our favorite clothes. Our mission is to unravel the environmental and social impacts of the fashion industry and empower UCLA students to make more informed and conscious consumption decisions.

Since its founding in 2018 by UCLA student Grace Reynolds, Unravel has cultivated a community of creative folks inspired by clothes and personal expression, but aware of the social and environmental injustices pervading our current fashion systems.

We welcome those with any level of experience or awareness! We seek to educate and learn together, never shame for past and present practices. Whether you are just learning to sew a button or have a handcrafted wardrobe; whether your eyes are just opening to the way fast fashion operates or you have a long list of big brands in your burn book, there is a place for you in Unravel. All we ask is that you bring an open mind, heart, willingness to learn, and—of course—your impeccable personal flair!

Want to get involved?

  • Come to meetings! Every other week, we gather to have discussions, upcycling workshops, or hear from speakers in the sustainable fashion space.

  • Look out for social invites! UCLA is a big place — part of what we do is create spaces to come together and connect. Might be a thrift trip and coffee, or a fun fashion show.

  • Swippity swap! Come find us at one of our many clothing swaps, to trade in things you are not feeling any more and spice up your wardrobe — at no cost ;)

  • Join board! Want to share your sustainable fashion passion with folks in a leadership role? Look out for Unravel board applications for the chance to help plan events, meetings, research and write, and make some smashing sustainable pals!
